“Matt Jee” Matt Jee is a local artist living and working in the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. Jee studied art, jewellery and design and his art has developed from elements of decorative design and fine art techniques. His paintings range in style, from realism to symbolism and there is often a strong or deeper meaning within the image. Matt Jee comes from an artistic family background and has had a passion for oil painting which spans many years.

Jee’s work almost exclusively in oil paints. He is fascinated by planning and process. Some pictures have careful deliberate process whereas others can be spontaneous. This lends to a crossover of styles partly to elicit mood but also to give artistic freedom. He uses resources from nature, relationships, books and the internet. Ideas come from the swampland of the unconscious and are externalised as snapshots of this internal world. They are not always comfortable but most of them make him smile and there is a hidden motivation seeking reward – if I did not enjoy it, I wouldn’t do it!
