Raised in Western Scotland, at the age of 16 was accepted into Gray’s School of Art, where she majored in 3D media with a focus on ceramic sculpture. Subsequently gaining a postgraduate qualification in Education, she briefly taught Art in Scotland before moving to New Zealand.
In the years following she raised a family, while running her own successful sculpture studio and managing NZ high country farming station. In the 1980’s she was a senior designer for a major New Zealand fashion label, also running her own label and taking home a national fashion design award.
In the 90’s while managing three of her own companies, she complete further studies in USA to gain a qualification in Psychotherapy enabling her tot in her own psychotherapy practice. Jane has always been fascinated by consciousness, the mind, and what makes us who we are.
In 2004 an accident changed her life. It was at this point she turned to paint. ” Painting for me is not simply an action: it is a location. My paintings are fragments of reality, contextually dissociated”. Jane now paints from a personal understanding of what it means to be estranged from experiencing the most simple familiarity with the physical reality in which she. like you, was once complacent.
